Procedure for obtaining a foreign passport at foreign institutions of the Republic of Tajikistan

The diplomatic missions of the Republic of Tajikistan (embassies and consular offices) issue ordinary passports to citizens of the Republic of Tajikistan who are permanently or temporarily reside in the country where these missions are located.

Ordinary passports are issued by the diplomatic missions of the Republic of Tajikistan upon submission of the following documents:

  • Passport (ID card) of a citizen of the Republic of Tajikistan or an ordinary passport;
  • Birth certificate and its copy for citizens of the Republic of Tajikistan under the age of 16;
  • Copy of the Decree of the President of the Republic of Tajikistan on admission to citizenship of the Republic of Tajikistan or a certificate confirming the acquisition of citizenship, issued by the authorized state bodies of the Republic of Tajikistan;
  • Receipt for payment of the consular fee.

Only a consular fee is charged at the diplomatic missions of the Republic of Tajikistan.

When processing an ordinary passport, the diplomatic missions of the Republic of Tajikistan verify the applicant\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\'s citizenship of the Republic of Tajikistan and the confirm the absence of any foreign citizenship. If the applicant holds citizenship of another state, the issuance of an international passport will be denied unless otherwise stipulated by international legal documents recognized by the Republic of Tajikistan.

The processing of an ordinary passport for a citizen of the Republic of Tajikistan under the age of 16 is carried out based on the written consent of one of the parents (father or mother), adoptive parent, guardian, trustee or other authorized persons. The consent must be certified by a notary or a diplomatic mission of the Republic of Tajikistan. In other cases, including the absence of the consent from the father, mother, adoptive parent, guardian, trustee, or other authorized persons, the issuance of an ordinary passport to a citizen under 16 is decided by the court.

Applications from citizens of the Republic of Tajikistan for the issuance of an ordinary passport are processed by the diplomatic missions of the Republic of Tajikistan within a period of up to one month.

More detailed information regarding the issuance of ordinary passports, including the list of required documents, applicable fees, reception days and contact details of consular offices, can be found on the official websites of the diplomatic missions of the Republic of Tajikistan.
