Citizenship – belonging to a certain state according to legal and political signs. At the same time, the citizen acquires rights and responsibilities in relation to his actions and position in the state, which is obliged to ensure the protection of the citizen's rights. Citizenship – means the implementation of the articles and rules in the Constitution – a set of laws of the rights of a person are indicated and its position in relation to the state authority is determined.

Who is a citizen of the Republic of Tajikistan?
Citizen of the Republic of Tajikistan – is a person who was a citizen of the Republic of Tajikistan on the day of adoption of the Constitution of the Republic of Tajikistan or acquired the citizenship of the Republic of Tajikistan in accordance with the legislation of the Republic of Tajikistan and international treaties of Tajikistan.

A citizen of the Republic of Tajikistan, who also has the citizenship of another state, is recognized by the Republic of Tajikistan only as a citizen of the Republic of Tajikistan, except for the cases specified in the international treaties of Tajikistan.

What documents confirm the citizenship of the Republic of Tajikistan?

What documents are issued in connection with obtaining or terminating the citizenship of the Republic of Tajikistan?
To persons residing in the territory of the Republic of Tajikistan, in accordance with the procedure established by the Constitutional Law of the Republic of Tajikistan “On Citizenship” have acquired the citizenship of the Republic of Tajikistan, the internal affairs authorities will issue a passport of a citizen of the Republic of Tajikistan. In the documents of children who have not reached the age of sixteen, there is a note about their belonging to the citizenship of the Republic of Tajikistan. If it is not possible to make a note in the children's documents, they will be given a certificate confirming their citizenship of the Republic of Tajikistan.

To persons who live outside the territory of the Republic of Tajikistan and in accordance with the procedure established by the Constitutional Law of the Republic of Tajikistan “On Citizenship” have acquired the citizenship of the Republic of Tajikistan, the foreign affairs authorities will issue a general foreign passport of a citizen of the Republic of Tajikistan or a certificate of return to the Republic of Tajikistan.

To persons who live in the territory of the Republic of Tajikistan and have citizenship of the Republic of Tajikistan in accordance with the procedure established by the Constitutional Law of the Republic of Tajikistan “On Citizenship” terminated and are not citizens of a foreign state, the internal affairs authorities issue residence certificates to stateless persons and documents confirming their citizenship are taken. In order for a stateless person to leave the territory of the Republic of Tajikistan, the relevant document is issued by the internal affairs authorities.

To persons living outside the territory of the Republic of Tajikistan and having the citizenship of the Republic of Tajikistan in accordance with the procedure established by the Constitutional Law of the Republic of Tajikistan “On Citizenship” are not citizens of a foreign state, the foreign affairs authorities issue a certificate to stateless persons, which is formalized by the internal affairs authorities, and documents confirming their citizenship are taken.
