Consular certification/Legalization

Consular certification/Legalization – is the determination and confirmation of the compliance of documents and acts with the legislation of the state that issued them, and certifies the authenticity of the signature of the responsible person and the seal of the competent authority of that state on documents and acts for their use in another country.

Authorized body for legalization

- in the Republic of Tajikistan – Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Tajikistan;
- abroad – foreign institutions of the Republic of Tajikistan

Documents that are subject to consular certification/legalization at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs

- documents intended for use in the territory of the Republic of Tajikistan issued by diplomatic missions or consular institutions of foreign states accredited in the Republic of Tajikistan;
- documents intended for use in the territory of the Republic of Tajikistan issued by the authorities of foreign states or with their participation, provided they are previously certified by diplomatic missions or consular institutions of the issuing states accredited in the Republic of Tajikistan;
- documents and acts issued in the territory of the Republic of Tajikistan by state authorities or with their participation.

Originals of the following documents and acts are not subject to certification/legalization

- passports, identity cards, membership cards and trade union cards, military IDs, employment record books, documents confirming affiliation to religion, driver’s licenses, as well as vehicle registration certificates.
- documents and acts prepared for use abroad that are submitted without state consular certification.

To obtain consular certification/legalization, the following must be submitted

- an application (PDF attached) for consular certification/legalization; (the application may be submitted by an authorized representative).
- identity document and its copy;
- the official document submitted for consular certification/legalization and its copy;
- certificate of state registration of a legal entity – for legal entity applicants, and its copy;
- document confirming payment of the consular fee.

Processing time and consular fee

Documents submitted for certification are reviewed within 3–5 working days. If necessary, this period may be extended up to 10 working days.
The consular fee for certification/legalization per document is set at USD 7.5 – for individuals and USD 15 – for legal entities.
For expedited processing within up to 3 working days, the fee is charged at 100% surcharge.
The consular fee is calculated in US dollars and paid in national currency at the exchange rate on the day of payment via non-cash settlement.
