Apostille

An apostille is the international standardised certificate that confirms the origin of an official document for use in countries that are parties to the Hague Convention of 5 October 1961. It certifies the authenticity of the signature, the capacity of the person who signed the document and, where applicable, the seal or stamp — not the content of the document. The apostille is issued in printed form, sealed and signed by an official of the authority authorised to affix an apostille in the Republic of Tajikistan. The stamp may be placed on originals or on copies.

The state bodies authorised to affix an apostille on official documents issued in the Republic of Tajikistan are:

Ministry of Justice of the Republic of Tajikistan

Civil-status (ZAGS) documents — birth, death, marriage and divorce certificates, adoption, change of name, establishment of paternity, certificates of no registered marriage, and similar certificates.

Notarial documents — certificates of inheritance, certificates of title to a share in the joint property of spouses, consent for a child to travel, spousal consent to a notarised transaction, certificates that a person is alive, notarised copies and extracts, notarised translations, and similar documents.

Court and enforcement documents — writs of execution, court decisions and judgments, court orders, and writs issued on the basis of arbitral awards in the Republic of Tajikistan.

Prosecutor’s documents — prosecutor’s decisions, orders, protests, submissions, arrest warrants, and similar documents.

Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Tajikistan

Education documents — school certificates, vocational and higher-education diplomas, candidate and doctor of science diplomas, academic transcripts, student records, and certificates of transfer between institutions.

Other documents — certificates of no criminal record, certificates of state registration of a legal entity, patents or certificates for individual entrepreneurial activity, archive certificates and copies of archive documents, and similar documents.

Official documents issued by state bodies of the Republic of Tajikistan and intended for use in another Hague Convention country may be apostilled. Originals issued by bodies of the Tajik Soviet Socialist Republic cannot be apostilled in the Republic of Tajikistan; an apostille may be placed only on copies notarised in the Republic of Tajikistan.

Documents to submit

• an application by the applicant or a representative acting under a power of attorney;

• an identity document of the applicant (and of the representative, if applicable);

• the original official document to be apostilled (or a notarised copy, where required).
