Procedure for the stay of citizens of Tajikistan abroad

Registration with a consular post

Citizens who plan to leave the Republic of Tajikistan, regardless of the purpose or length of stay abroad, are advised to register with a diplomatic mission or consular post.

Registration of Tajik citizens at a foreign mission is voluntary. Consular officers record the contact details provided by the citizen; under the law those details are used to protect the rights, interests and safety of the citizens themselves. In an emergency in a foreign state, information about even a short stay and about how to reach the citizen or their relatives can be decisive.

If a foreign passport is lost

If a passport is lost outside the Republic of Tajikistan, contact a Tajik diplomatic mission or consular post in the country of stay immediately to obtain a certificate for entry (return) to the Republic of Tajikistan. If the mission is far from where you are, we recommend that you first telephone its staff and ask which documents are required.

To obtain a certificate for entry (return) to the Republic of Tajikistan you must submit:

• an application for the certificate (the form is available at the Tajik foreign mission);

• two photographs (35 × 45 mm);

• an internal passport (if available) or written statements by at least two citizens of the Republic of Tajikistan confirming the applicant’s identity and citizenship (certified at the foreign mission).

The applicant may also submit other documents to confirm identity: a driving licence, an official ID with a photograph, and so on. In that case the foreign mission carries out an additional check of the applicant’s details.

What to do in an emergency

If you are in an emergency area (terrorist attack, natural disaster), inform the embassy or consulate of the Republic of Tajikistan about yourself, your relatives and people you know, as soon as you can. If you do not know the telephone numbers of the Tajik consulate in that region, tell a representative of the travel company or your relatives.

Help returning to the Republic of Tajikistan for citizens left without means of subsistence

In exceptional cases Tajik foreign missions may help citizens of the Republic of Tajikistan who are in a foreign state without means of subsistence to return to Tajikistan. Exceptional cases are situations in which return to Tajikistan will remove an immediate threat to their lives.
