Procedure for obtaining a foreign passport within the territory of the Republic of Tajikistan

The ordinary passport of the Republic of Tajikistan is the property of the Republic of Tajikistan, and its holder is under the protection and patronage of the Republic of Tajikistan.

This passport is issued to citizens of the Republic of Tajikistan on the basis of the “Rules of Registration and Issue of the Foreign Passports Containing Electronic Media of Information and Certificate on Return to the Republic of Tajikistan to Citizens of the Republic of Tajikistan”, approved by the Resolution of the Government of the Republic of Tajikistan dated May 27, 2020, No. 294.

The competent state bodies for issuing an ordinary passport are the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, diplomatic missions of the Republic of Tajikistan (embassies and consular offices), the Ministry of Internal Affairs and its territorial subdivisions.

The Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Republic of Tajikistan and its territorial subdivisions issue an ordinary passport to citizens of the Republic of Tajikistan at their place of permanent residence or place of temporary residence or at their place of stay.

An ordinary passport is issued by the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Republic of Tajikistan and its territorial subdivisions on the basis of the following documents:

  • Passport of a citizen of the Republic of Tajikistan.

  • Birth certificate for citizens under the age of 16. In the event of a dispute about the child's belonging to citizenship, a birth certificate with a stamp and seal confirming the child's belonging to the citizenship of the Republic of Tajikistan, or a certificate issued by authorized state bodies confirming belonging to the citizenship of the Republic of Tajikistan.

  • Receipt for payment of the state fee and other obligatory payments, with the exception of citizens exempted from paying the state fee and other obligatory payments in accordance with the legislation of the Republic of Tajikistan.

Time Limit for Consideration of an Application for the Issuance of a Foreign Passport

Written requests of citizens of the Republic of Tajikistan for the issuance of ordinary passports are considered within 15 working days.

For urgent consideration of applications from individuals and legal entities for the issuance of an ordinary passport, the amount of the fee is increased to the following percentages:

  • Within 3 working days by 200 percent.

  • Within 7 working days by 100 percent.
